Introduction

VIP status is free, but is by invitation only.

VIP status gives authors and publishers using Jellybooks special privileges.

VIP status includes all the privileges of a PRO user, plus the ability to upload books to the Jellyfactory, which is the content repository for all books at Jellybooks, as well as access to “Tools for Authors” by Jellybooks.

VIP status is designed for authors and small publishers with a catalogue of 100 titles or less.

Only VIP users are able to access “Tools for Authors” service by Jellybooks.

Invitations

To become a VIP user you have to be invited.

Invites are available from any existing VIP user, such as your fellow authors.

Are none of your friends or colleague a Jellybooks VIP user yet? Ouch!

In that case you have two options:

Upload

How? Click on the VIP button and the VIP sub-navigation bar will appear. The “upload” icon (the cloud icon with an upwards pointing arrow) is on the far left of the VIP navigation menu.

We accept ebooks in any genre or category, provided they are in ePub format and less than 5 MB large.

Along with the ePub file, we require a high-resolution cover image (we will dynamically resize as necessary). Don’t forget to add a short synopsis (up to 200 characters, which we use for Pinterest and other social networks) and a full synopsis (up to 1,000 characters) which is used for the book detail page on jellybooks.com, as well as ISBN/ASIN and publication date.

You can upload up to 100 titles. Publishers with more than that number should get in contact with Jellybooks to discuss options. As for authors with more than 100 titles, do they exist?

Managing Your Uploads

How? Click on the VIP button and the VIP sub-navigation bar will appear. The “My Titles” icon (9 squares in a 3 by 3 matrix) is the icon second from left on the VIP navigation menu.

The “My Titles” section displays all the titles that you have uploaded to the Jellyfactory and how they will appear on Jellybooks. You can edit the information at any time by clicking on the cover and following the links to the “edit” section (at the bottom of the page). This will allow you to change any of the title’s meta-data.

You can remove a title at any time by clicking on the cover and pressing the “delete” button, located in the “edit” menu at the bottom of the page. However, this is irreversible. Once deleted, you will need to upload the book again, if you want to have it available through Jellybooks again.

Search

Why is search available only to PRO and VIP users and not to everyone at jellybooks.com?

Ah, because…

  1. jellybooks.com (Project “Cranberry” or serendipitous discovery) was designed to help readers discover new books, not find what readers have already discovered. We think that, if readers already know what they are looking for that they will head over to Google, Amazon or Goodreads, not Jellybooks.
  2. The Jellybooks catalogue is still limited to tens of thousands as opposed to millions of books. The reason is that we obtain permission from each publisher and then create well-formatted samples from the master file provided. Thus, we don’t have all the books available a normal reader might search for…
  3. Last but not least jellybooks.com was designed to recreate online some of the serendipity of browsing a physical book store. A bookstore has no search button and jellybooks.com has no search button either.

The search button for VIP users appears automatically in the main navigation menu when you log-in with your VIP username. It is located right next to the VIP button with the purple boundary.

You can search all titles available through the Jellyfactory (not just your own) by author, publisher, title or ISBN , title or publisher (author search is currently disabled while we iron out some kinks).

Embed

The embed button replaces the purple “buy” button, if you are a registered VIP user and appears in the book detail page on the Jellybooks home page, in your personal cloud library of books you have sampled, in the cloud library of book you have uploaded (“My uploads”), and in the search results when you click on a cover.

The embed button links you to the button creation page, where you can select the buttons design you want.

Widgets

As a VIP user, you can create widgets like this using the “Tools for Authors” menu or the “embed” button on every book detail page.

There are 6 options available: the widgets come in 3 size, each with or without cover art.

You can see of a preview of each option to the left. Once you have decided on the design that is right for you, copy the code to the target destination where you want to use the widget.

Here is a simple step-by step guide for using Jellybooks buttons on Tumblr:

  2. Click on the Dashboard profile of your Tumblr blog
  3. Click on the “Aa” text button
  4. Click on the “html” button
  5. Paste the widget code into the box

Here the same process but with some intro text and using a widget with no cover:

  2. Click on the Dashboard profile of your Tumblr blog
  3. Click on the “Aa” text button
  4. Click on the “html” button
  5. Paste the widget code into the box
  6. Click a 2nd time on the “html” button to leave the editor mode
  7. Type in the text above (or below the button)
  8. Click publish

Note: you need to copy the widget/button code before you write your post!

Here is the same step-by step guide for using Jellybooks widgets with Wordpress:

  1. Copy the widget code for the book and widget version you have selected
  2. Log into Wordpress and create a new post
